About Me

Moffat, Scotland
The story of our Museum starts in 1984 when an imaginative group of local people set about establishing a Museum in the old Bakehouse. Since those early days it has flourished and though the collections have increased the area in which to display them can not. The space is limited. Additionally the delightful access through a cobbled pathway and stepped entrance is not friendly for visitors who have any difficulty walking. It has been possible through a generous bequest from an Australian member of the Moffat Clan to buy an adjacent building. We can now join these two buildings together and at a stroke both expand the display and storage areas and provide a new access from the main pavement. Work to create our new look Museum with all the palns for fresh projects which goes with it started in April/May 2012 and will continue till the end of the year. This BLOG or diary will record through simple text and pictures what we are doing as we are doing it. Please wish us well and come and see us in person when we are finished. In the meantime we will be happy to have your encouragement and any comments are very welcome.

'Members of the Museum'

Plans are afoot for the formation of a group for people interested in the Museum and the heritage of Moffat.  Members will get fore-warning of special  events and exhibitions, meetings, social events and visits.  Just formulating a programme now!

Plastering now!

I popped in to the Museum yesterday to see what we are up to. Well, I' no expert, but it looks to me as if we are plastering walls now.

New exhibit ....... a sword in the 'BOX'!

This new 'exhibit' is interactive and designed for all age groups.

On the same principle as the sword in the stone, this sword can only be released from the 'box' when a correct answer is given to a history question.  There will be an option of 4 questions and the answers can be found by exploring in the Museum.  A great idea.  I haven't seen the finished exhibit yet .... but it was delivered yesterday.  I will post a photograph shortly.

Autumn and Museum activity

I just loved this autumn picture - nothing to do with the Museum!

Harthope House work has been going on in the background and more work on the admin front.  Text for the the Town Trail map is being formalised and will be ready to go to the graphic designers for them to mock up a preview map.

The several Oral Histories taken earlier in the month are excellent and now waiting to be transcribed.  Thank you to the people who have contributed the wonderful stories.  It will make for a great archive of material and will be an ongoing project which we can keep adding to.
