About Me

Moffat, Scotland
The story of our Museum starts in 1984 when an imaginative group of local people set about establishing a Museum in the old Bakehouse. Since those early days it has flourished and though the collections have increased the area in which to display them can not. The space is limited. Additionally the delightful access through a cobbled pathway and stepped entrance is not friendly for visitors who have any difficulty walking. It has been possible through a generous bequest from an Australian member of the Moffat Clan to buy an adjacent building. We can now join these two buildings together and at a stroke both expand the display and storage areas and provide a new access from the main pavement. Work to create our new look Museum with all the palns for fresh projects which goes with it started in April/May 2012 and will continue till the end of the year. This BLOG or diary will record through simple text and pictures what we are doing as we are doing it. Please wish us well and come and see us in person when we are finished. In the meantime we will be happy to have your encouragement and any comments are very welcome.

Corehead Moffat

Giles Carey of Discovering Dumfries and Galloway's Past is exploring the possibility of unearthing the stone remnants or earthworks of a Tower House at Corehead Farm in the Beeftub area just north of Moffat. It is hoped that with the help of a 'geofizz' survey something exciting will be discovered!  Though not strictly part of the Museum renewal the project the archaeological dig is associated with the Museum. We will keep you posted of any findings.

Railway layout exhibit

Emilio DiCerbo is preparing an exciting new exhibit for the Museum.  The exhibit shows the Moffat railway station as it was in the early 20th century - to scale and complete with a working model train.

This layout will be 14ft. long and besides the platform and station the exhibit shows the coal depot,
cattle loading stance and the slaughterhouse.  Very authentic indeed and it is going to be a certain attraction.

Here Emilio is demonstrating his very impressive train layout.

Looks like an exhibition space!

Quite a change during my weeks holiday!  Now the wiring is under way and  we have a large exhibition space unfolding.  This view is taken from the bottom of the stairs in the bakehouse looking through the old storage cupboard to the front window at Churchgate.
